K-1 News

K-1 News!
Week of January 27th!
Monday
No School-Snow Day
Tuesday
We had a late start today.  We worked on learning our new sight words: your, be, will, that, who, into.  We read a The 100th Day and made a picture of what we would look like and be doing when we are 100 years old!  We had Guidance today.  We did Jacub’s Star of the Week.  We had to wait to do Zoe’s Star of the Week book because she was sick.  We had PE.
Wednesday
We had our 100th Day fun!  We read another story about the 100th Day of School and we did a lot of counting.  We sat quietly for 100 seconds.  We made crowns to celebrate our big day.  We made a snack with 100 things in it to eat.  Yum!  We created pictures with the number 100.  We shared our 100 items in our bags at our tables.  We had to give clues and make guesses about what was in the bag.  We had library.
Thursday
We wrote words from our Mystery Jar.  We worked on looking at our own paper and using our own brain to do the work.  We learned that it is important to do our best and be learners instead of getting it “right” by looking at someone else’s work.  After we wrote our words, we checked to see how many sounds we got correct.  We read a story called Atlantic.  We learned a bit about the way water moves in a circle.  We played Bang!  with our sight words.  We wrote in our School to Home Journal.  We colored 101 dots on a picture of a Dalmation.   We had music.

Things to work on at home:
*All of the sight words we have worked on
*Knowing the numbers to 20

I Can
No I Can assessments will be coming home again today. I will be sending home just an assessments of how your child is doing on the sight words we have worked on so far.  If they are not circled, they are ones they need to work on.  We are also going to continue to work on all of the sight words we have learned into next week and not be learning any new ones next week.

Exercise
We have started exercising in the room for 4-5 minutes each day before we start our literacy time.  The students are really having a tough time settling in and being learners.  We started it on Wednesday and will try to do it each day.  I am hoping this can help them settle in a bit.  It is hard with all of the missed days and late starts, but the reality is that we have to keep pushing and learning!!

Upcoming Events:
*February 5th- Early Out
