K-1 News

K-1 News!
Week of January 13th!
Monday
We had MAD time today.  We read a story called Dear Mr. Blueberry.  It was about a little girl named Emily who wrote letters to her teacher and he wrote back to her.  We practiced our new sight words how and is.  We learned about vowels and the short sounds they make.  We had snack.   Mrs. Hesse came in today for Guidance.  We made Hailey’s Star of the Week book and introduced our new star Brenna.  We had music.
Tuesday
We had a late start today.  We did some brainstorming with our carpet partner on what we thought science is.  Then, we read a story called What is Science?  We came up with the idea is that science is when you study things to learn more about them.  We practiced our sight word is.  We learned another new sight word.  It is of.  We talked about it not following the sounding out rules and that our brain just had to know that word.  We picked out numbers 11-19 on the whiteboard.  We colored numbers that are teens on a worksheet.  We had PE.
Wednesday
We read a story called Huggapotamus for our book bags.  We practiced our Jolly Phonics sounds with our carpet partners.  We talked about the vowels again.  We focused today on the short i and long i sound.  We sorted pictures of things that have a long or short i in them.  We read a story in our student book.  We practiced fixing sentences.  We did our first letter in our School to Home Journal.  We rolled two dice, added the numbers together, and colored the number on a winter mouse.  We had Art.  We made a goal for good behavior in the lunchroom, so we got to pick a reward.  We chose to watch a movie at rest.
Thursday
Today was a tough day in K-1.  The students wanted to play all day and we had work to do!  We practiced our sight words playing the game Splat!  We worked on our new sight words many and where.  We read a story called Snowman Magic and put it in our book bag books.  We made snowmen with our faces on them for the door.  We did our first opinion writing of whether we like hot dogs or hamburgers.  We practiced putting numbers in order from 11-20.  We had Music.
