K-1 News

K-1 News!
Week of April 7th!
Monday
We had MAD time today in the cafeteria.  We did some word work with changing the beginning sound to make a new word.  We reviewed our sight words.   We talked about how bread is made and we read a story called Bread Comes to Life.  We worked in two groups to sort out words that have the sounds o,j,x in them while the other group was doing book bags and then we switched.  We had Guidance today.  She is working on focusing, staying on task, and listening to directions.   We had PE.  Mrs. Ferguson was here today and she worked on the number line with some of us.  We made Kairagan’s Star of the Week!
Tuesday
We reviewed our Jolly Phonics sounds with a partner.  We played with sounds to create new words.  We read a story called Pie in the Sky.  We talked about how reading also helps us to make things when we read a recipe.  We read a recipe while Mrs. Jedlicka made chocolate pudding.  We got to eat the pudding at snack and it was amazing!  We made a recipe of silly things we would put in a pie.  We had WIN today.  Some of us practiced story problems and some of us did addition with dice in math today.  We had library.
Wednesday
Today was an early out day.  We worked on changing sounds to make new words.  We read a story together in our student books that we had read last week.  We split into our WIN groups and we read a new story.  Some of us worked with Mrs. Jedlicka, some with Tessa, and some with Rachelle.  We had music and we got our lines for the program.  We went to computer and did learning.com.  We had WIN.
Thursday
We sat for a couple of minutes to quiet ourselves and get ready for a day at school!  We had literacy centers today.  We worked on real/nonsense words, our sight words, read a story in our student books with Mrs. Jedlicka, made bookmarks for Diane at the TPL, played Memory, and worked on the computers.  We wrote in our Home to School Journal.  We had WIN time.  We watched a video about beginning addition and we practiced adding one to a number.  We had PE.

Classroom Needs-thanks so much for the donations of napkins and glue sticks!!

You can access this computer program at home by going to the www.tipton.k12.ia.us site.  When you get to that site, you click on the elementary link.  After that, scroll down to the bottom and click on the link.  Your child can then log in as follows:

username:first letter of first name and whole last name with 26 on the end (26 being the year they graduate...sigh) .  Ex. Sally Jones would be sjones26

password: 1234

District: TIPTON CMTY SCHOOL DISTRICT

They can then click on what they want to do….they have been assigned lessons to work on from me.  They have to pass each lesson with 80% proficiency to be done.  If there is a green check mark on the lesson, they have already passed it.  Sometimes students like to do this and like to do it at home!

Early Out-What Were Those Teachers Doing?!?!
The teachers worked together today on our math curriculum.  We are in the process of matching the common core math expectations to our math expectations.  We are also working on choosing a new math curriculum for next year.
