K-1 News!
Week of March 31st!
Monday
We had MAD time today in the cafeteria. We did some word work with changing the beginning sound to make a new word. We reviewed our sight words from last week and we worked on our new ones for this week which are away, by, he, must, no, and there. We practiced our sight words in sentences. We read a story called Red Eyes or Blue Feathers which was a book about how animals adapt to keep safe or to get food. Half of us went with Mrs. Jedlicka to work on reading and writing sight words while the rest of us played in centers and then we switched groups. Mrs. Ferguson was here today and she read a book with us. We made Lilly’s Star of the Week and we introduced Kairagan as the new Star of the Week!
Tuesday
Mrs. Jedlicka was gone today, so we had Ms. Shipley. We practiced our sight words playing the game Bang! We read a story about chameleons and wrote about what our chameleon would look like if we had one. We read a story about spring together and then with a partner. We had WIN. We had music.
Wednesday
We practiced working on the at word family. We wrote the date today and our class message. We circled and underlined words that are our sight words in the message. We practiced working with sounds by changing the first letter to make a new word. We worked in groups of three today to make words out of the letters d,h,i,k,o,t. We made a list of the words as a class. We read a student book called Hog in a Hat together and then with a partner. We wrote in our School to Home Journal. We had WIN. We practiced doing math story problems...really focusing on the number line and equation. We had PE.
Thursday
We did yoga this morning to try and relax ourselves. We were pretty active today. We did four centers at literacy time today. We wrote words around the room, we wrote our sight words in different colors based on the number we got on a dice, we read a story called Kid Hid, and we practiced sounding out and writing words. We had WIN. We practiced doing addition story problems with a partner and then we went over them as a class. We had Art.

Napkins and glue sticks
You can access this computer program at home by going to the www.tipton.k12.ia.us site. When you get to that site, you click on the elementary link. After that, scroll down to the bottom and click on the link. Your child can then log in as follows:
username:first letter of first name and whole last name with 26 on the end (26 being the year they graduate...sigh) . Ex. Sally Jones would be sjones26
password: 1234
District: TIPTON CMTY SCHOOL DISTRICT
They can then click on what they want to do….they have been assigned lessons to work on from me. They have to pass each lesson with 80% proficiency to be done. If there is a green check mark on the lesson, they have already passed it. Sometimes students like to do this and like to do it at home!
