K-1 News!
Week of October 21st!
Monday
We had MAD time in the cafeteria today. We practiced the sight word red. We learned the Jolly Phonics sound er. We read Jonathan and His Mommy. We learned the Alphafriend Callie Cat. We finished writing our sight words around the room. We did Colby’s Star of the Week. We had Art today.
Tuesday
We practiced rhyming for our morning work. We have learned all of our Jolly Phonics sounds so we are beginning to sound out words to read and write them. We read a story called Move. We talked about the different ways that animals move and that movements are also called verbs. We had snack, practiced our Cc sound, wrote numbers to 20, and practiced sounding out words like bat=b at (b is called the onset and the at is called the rhyme of a word). We wrote an I see a _________ page for a class book. We made witches with patterned hair in math. We had music.
Wednesday
It was an early out day today. We practiced reviewing our Jolly Phonics sounds with a partner. We practiced the Cc sound and saw that the letters c,a,t make the word cat. We did a practice page with Cc and Aa. We read a fun story called Clarence Clown. We read a book about firefighters and the tools they use as a group and then with our partner. We had Guidance today. We talked about safe and not safe touch in Guidance. We had PE.
Thursday
We practiced figuring out the beginning sounds for pictures for our morning work. We sounded out, wrote, and read more cvc words (consonant vowel consonant ex. log). We read a story called I Can See as a group and then with partners in our reading book. We talked about and moved the different ways animals can move. We read the story called The Tortoise and the Hare. We talked about it being a fable. Ask your child what a fable is (we learned that it is a story that is meant to teach a lesson). We made predictions and journaled about what we would see tomorrow at the pumpkin patch. We listened to a story about pumpkins and our goal was to learn one new thing while we listened. We practiced writing the number 2 in math. It was kind of an active day today. Most students really struggled with controlling themselves today with their voice and body.
Things to work on at home:
*Playing with rhyming words and with taking apart words-log=l og and boat= b oat.
*Knowing the letter and the sound it makes-visually seeing a letter and stating the sound.

Teacher’s Inservice
The teachers in the elementary got together on Wednesday to discuss the collaboration that is going on between the teachers in each grade level. We talked about what the differences are between a team and a group. Each of our goals should be to be a collaborative team that helps meet the needs of all students in each classroom. We also had time to meet with our grade level teams to talk about what we are doing during WIN time and to give each other support during this time.
