K-1 News


K-1 News!
Week of October 28th!
Monday
Mrs. O. was here today.  We had MAD time in the cafeteria today.  We practiced the number 2.  We sang the song “The Wheels on the Bus”.  We read Good Morning, Digger. We learned the Alphafriend Pippa Pig.  We practiced writing our sight words.  We did Gavin’s Star of the Week.  We worked on writing the number 3.  We had PE.
Tuesday
We practiced writing the number 3 for our morning work.  We used our Jolly Phonics sounds to write and read words.  We practiced working with the sound Pp.  We read a story called What Do Wheels Do All Day?  We had snack, practiced the sound Pp, and we drew pictures of what wheels help us do.  We practiced writing the number 4.   We had Art.
Wednesday
We practiced rhyming for our morning work.  We practiced our Jolly Phonics sounds with a partner.   We read I Like Animals together and then with our carpet partner.  We practiced sounding out words and counting the sounds.  We had snack, practiced the Tt and Pp sound, and made tally marks next to the sight words we found around the room.  We wrote about what we thought Mrs. Jedlicka should be for Halloween.  We made Caleb’s Star of the Week book.  We had music.
Thursday
We colored a Halloween page using color words.  We drew pictures of what we were going to be for Halloween.  We colored bookmarks for the Tipton Public Library.  We watched a Charlie Brown Halloween movie while we ate snack.  We made jack o’lanterns out of paper.  We had Guidance.  We learned about being safe and making safe choices in Guidance. We had Diane visit us from the Tipton Public Library.  We put on our costumes and had a parade around the gym.  We decorated little pumpkins.




Things to work on at home:
*Playing with rhyming words and with taking apart words-log=l   og  and boat= b    oat.
*Knowing the letter and the sound it makes-visually seeing a letter and stating the sound.
*Sight Word: I, like, the, and, see, we, a, to

Halloween!

We had so much fun today in our classroom.  We watched a Charlie Brown movie, we drew pictures of what we were going to be for Halloween, we made jack o'lanterns out of paper, we had a visit from Diane from the Tipton Public Library, we had a spook parade, and we decorated little pumpkins.  Enjoy pictures from our day!

Pride of the Wapsi Pumpkin Farm Field Trip!

We had a wonderful day today at the Pride of the Wapsi Pumpkin Farm.  We rode on a wagon to fetch our pumpkins, we looked at a bunch of farm animals, and we watched an informational video about pumpkins and how they grow.  It was a great time!

K-1 News!


K-1 News!
Week of October 21st!
Monday
We had MAD time in the cafeteria today.  We practiced the sight word red.  We learned the Jolly Phonics sound er.  We read Jonathan and His Mommy. We learned the Alphafriend Callie Cat.  We finished writing our sight words around the room.  We did Colby’s Star of the Week.  We had Art today.
Tuesday
We practiced rhyming for our morning work.  We have learned all of our Jolly Phonics sounds so we are beginning to sound out words to read and write them. We read a story called Move.  We talked about the different ways that animals move and that movements are also called verbs.  We had snack, practiced our Cc sound, wrote numbers to 20, and practiced sounding out words like bat=b    at  (b is called the onset and the at is called the rhyme of a word).  We wrote an I see a _________ page for a class book.  We made witches with patterned hair in math.  We had music.
Wednesday
It was an early out day today.  We practiced reviewing our Jolly Phonics sounds with a partner.  We practiced the Cc sound and saw that the letters c,a,t make the word cat.  We did a practice page with Cc and Aa.  We read a fun story called Clarence Clown.  We read a book about firefighters and the tools they use as a group and then with our partner.  We had Guidance today.  We talked about safe and not safe touch in Guidance.  We had PE.  
Thursday
We practiced figuring out the beginning sounds for pictures for our morning work.   We sounded out, wrote, and read more cvc words (consonant vowel consonant ex. log).  We read a story called I Can See as a group and then with partners in our reading book.  We talked about and moved the different ways animals can move.  We read the story called The Tortoise and the Hare.  We talked about it being a fable.  Ask your child what a fable is (we learned that it is a story that is meant to teach a lesson).  We made predictions and journaled about what we would see tomorrow at the pumpkin patch.  We listened to a story about pumpkins and our goal was to learn one new thing while we listened.  We practiced writing the number 2 in math.  It was kind of an active day today.  Most students really struggled with controlling themselves today with their voice and body.

Teacher’s Inservice
The teachers in the elementary got together on Wednesday to discuss the collaboration that is going on between the teachers in each grade level.  We talked about what the differences are between a team and a group.  Each of our goals should be to be a collaborative team that helps meet the needs of all students in each classroom.  We also had time to meet with our grade level teams to talk about what we are doing during WIN time and to give each other support during this time.
