Hot Chocolate Day!
We did a lot of fun things today with hot chocolate and then we enjoyed a treat after lunch recess!

Sarah Visits!
Sarah visited today from Cedar County Conservation. She taught us about deer. We learned that deer eat corn, nuts, and twigs in the winter. That they fight with their horns and their teeth get smoother as they get older. They are hunted by bobcats. We got to touch antlers and a bobcat coat. We also made two ornaments for our tree!

Herbert Hoover Christmas Trees Field Trip!
We went to the Herbert Hoover Museum today in West Branch to see their Christmas Trees display. The trees were decorated with all things about the state of Iowa. We watched a few movies in their theater, saw the trees, and listened to books as we did a craft. It was a fun field trip!

Week of December 9th!
Monday
We had MAD time today. We worked on two new words. They are now and are. We read the story called Home for a Tiger, Home for a Bear. We talked about many different kinds of animals and the homes they live in. We wrote a thank you note to the lunch ladies for all that we do in the spirit of kindness. We had Guidance with Mrs. Hesse. We made Aron’s Star of the Week book and we learned about our new Star of the Week, Jett. We had PE.
Tuesday
We practiced writing words from the Mystery Jar. We practiced reading and writing our new sight words into sentences. We practiced beginning, middle, and ending sounds. We made ourselves into elves for our classroom door. We had Millie from Farm Bureau visit today to teach us about turkeys! We had library.
Wednesday
Today was an early out day. We read Turtle Splash and we talked again about where animals live. We made a class book after choosing animals and their homes to draw. We had music class. We sang Christmas songs. We made Christmas trees by organizing strips of paper from big to little.
Thursday
We played Sight Word Splat today with a our carpet partner. We put cotton balls on our Count Down to Santa Santas. We read new books for our book bags. We rolled dice and added the numbers together to color a Christmas page.

Diane Wallick Visit
Diane Wallick from the Tipton Public Library (Our Adopt-a-Class Business) came by today to read a couple of stories and to give us a Thanksgiving Treat! We had a lot of fun!

Thanksgiving Fun!
The Farm Bureau Ladies came today and did three fun activities with us about Thanksgiving. We got to hear a story, see antiques, and we pinned the feather on the turkey. Enjoy our pictures!

Week of November 18th!
Monday
We had MAD time today. We worked on two new words. They are my and with. We read Storm is Coming. We watched a movie about the Berenstain Bears and what it means to be in “need”. We talked about what blessings are and how lucky we all are! We did Nathan’s Star of the Week. We had PE.
Tuesday
We put words in order to make the sentence, “I like to see turkeys.” to practice our sight words. We practiced writing at and an words. We worked on our two new sight words my and with. We worked on the sound for Nn. We read a book with Tessa, wrote CVC words, and had snack in small group. We wrote in our journals. We practiced writing the number 8. We had library.
Wednesday
Today was an early out day. We practiced our Jolly Phonics sounds with our partners. We practiced sight words and hearing sounds in words. We went to the computer lab. We went to new WIN groups today. We had music.
Thursday
We practiced the word with today. We read and wrote our sight words with our carpet partners. We read two books in our student books called I Can Nap and Tap With Me. We read them together and then with a partner. We had Nathan’s birthday snack. We rolled a dice and then colored where the number was on a scarecrow. We had PE.

5th Grade Buddies!

K-1 News!
Week of November 11th!
Monday
We had a Veteran’s Day Assembly. There were close to 100 Veteran’s in attendance. We sang songs, listened to the band, heard speeches, and watched a video. It took up most of our morning! We colored a flag. We did Gabrielle’s Star of the Week. The library is closed for the Book Fair, so Mrs. Foley came in a read a book to us about being kind.
Tuesday
We had MAD time today. We read two books about seasons called Jump Into January and Every Season. We drew pictures of what we like to do in each season. We practiced blending sounds to make words. We learned and practiced writing the number 6. We had music.
Wednesday
We practiced writing the number 6 for our morning work. We wrote at words and saw how the words could change with just changing the first letter. We read a story out of our student book called Come and See Me. We had snack, read a book with Mrs. Jedlicka or put ABC in order, and we made a Cat in the Hat At page in small group. We learned and practiced writing the number 7. We had PE.
Thursday
We read and wrote our sight words with our carpet partners. We blended sounds to read words. We read a story in our student books called Pat and Me. We had snack, wrote about the day, month, and season, and we read a book with Mrs. Jedlicka during small group. We wrote a narrative sentence in our journals. A narrative sentence is a sentence that tells something about us. We wrote about what we like to play. We practiced one of our new sight words come. We had art.

Winter is Here!
Winter Has Come!
Please remember:
*Boots and snow pants have to be worn at recess to be able to play in the snow.
*If only boots are worn, they can only go off of the playground, but cannot play down in the snow.
*If snow pants and boots are not at school, they can only play on the black top.
*A pair of shoes need to be sent in if they are going to wear boots to school. We cannot have snow boots in the room and keep the room clean!
*I always suggest to send in an extra pair of socks in case their socks get wet.
*They will play outside unless the temperature is below zero, so please send them in warm coats, mittens, and hats.
